Kangaroo Island Family Holiday

We have been over to Kangaroo Island (KI) a couple of times since the fires started.  The first was during the firefighting campaign to deliver a Hiace mini bus filled to the roof, front and back with donated clothes and boots for the fire fighters. We also delivered water and food which all had been donated by the local Barossa and Adelaide community. One man said to us at the Kingscote oval – “We have nothing, no clothes no food and no house” we of course let him help himself for his family. The donations have been amazing. One young man volunteering at the local community refuge store where we delivered our donated supplies said to us “I worked at the Southern Ocean Lodge and now I have no job and it will be hard to find any job on the Island.”

On the positive side we went back over a couple of weeks later for a short holiday with our whole family, our 3 young children, mother-in-law, sister-in-law and ourselves with empty eskies to help the Kangaroo Island community and had a wonderful time. We stayed in Penneshaw which is the same town the ferry docks in and totally loved it.

After arriving we drove up to Dudley Wines, had some lunch, tried some wine, bought some more wine and even hit some golf balls with my 4, 5 and 9 year children!

Next stop was a family owned winery which only opened end 2019 called False Cape Wines. Great location, and a fun play area for the kids to enjoy too. More wine purchased to help fill our empty eskies.

Our last stop was to the local IGA shop at Penneshaw to buy all our supplies for the weekend.

Great way to finish our first day in Kangaroo Island, checking into our delightful accommodation, enjoying a BBQ, opening one of the local wine purchases we just made and watching the sea views from our decking.

Other places we visited over the weekend was Seal Bay, Raptor Domain, the kids loved being able to hold birds, Kangaroo Island Outdoor Action for a quad bike tour, Kangaroo Island Spirits, Kangaroo Island Brewery, Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park, an amazing fresh seafood luncheon at The Rockpool Café, fresh scones at Emu Day Lavender Farm was a great way to finish off our weekend.

Travelling to Kingscote was easy and with no sign of the destruction. The children went for a swim in the saltwater pool. Travel around most of the island is easy and restrictions are being relaxed.

We found there are plenty of activities for the whole family and we are a booking agent for KI, so give us a buzz if you wish to enjoy the 3 day, 2 night Kangaroo Island Experience like we did. Why not walk in our footprints.
